Our Shiitake mushrooms (
Lentinula edodes
) are harvested at their peak maturity and dried the same day. We only use 100% fruiting bodies -
no fillers, additives, brown rice or wheat - just mushroom fruiting body ready to get in your soups, teas, and tinctures.
Shiitake mushrooms contain eritadenine, a compound known to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood. Shiitake are also rich in polysaccharides like lentinans and other beta-glucans that reduce inflammation and help prevent the intestines from absorbing cholesterol.*
The mushroom's Japanese name shiitake (椎茸) is composed of shii (椎, Castanopsis), for the tree Castanopsis cuspidata that provides the dead logs on which it is typically cultivated, and take (茸, "mushroom"). It is also commonly called "sawtooth oak mushroom", "black forest mushroom", "black mushroom", "golden oak mushroom", or "oakwood mushroom"
