August Thiel was a Russian-emigre who started a wine, whiskey, and liquor business in Boston, Massachusetts. He operated from about 1910 to 1925, when the business was destroyed by fire. He proclaimed to be a proud "Whiskey Rectifier," meaning he purchased whiskey from various southern distilleries and blended them for his myriad brands and bottles.
